I was recently awarded two blog awards: Anna Marie from authenticallyannamarie awarded me the One Lovely Blog Award and Dan from hurdlestohappiness awarded me the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I never knew there were such things!

What an honour to be recognized by others who are putting themselves and their stories out into the world. It’s so cool to know that something that I say can touch another in a way that makes them want to honour these words by offering an award. I guess that’s what this is all about isn’t it….not the awards (although they are incredibly sweet and I was very excited!!!) , but putting our words and ideas out into the universe for our own clarity and, I imagine for many of us, the desire to connect with and inspire others.
On an even deeper level, it just reinforces for me again how we all have the responsibility to be always mindful of our words and to offer what the Buddhists often refer to as ‘gentle speech’ or ‘right speech’ into the world. Don Miguel Ruiz in his book “The Four Agreements” offers us this practice: Be Impeccable With Your Word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
As a colleague once said, “our words take on an energy of their own once we release them out into the universe” and sometimes we may not be 100% sure what that looks like. And so I try and choose my words carefully, to use them in ways that are I hope are beneficial, helpful and inspiring. To offer them in the ‘direction of truth and love’. And to know that, even though I cannot truly control how my words are received, I can use them in ways that feel true and authentic and are honoring to myself and my fellow travelers on this journey.

So thank you Anna Marie and Dan for reminding me to never forget the power and impact of the words that I write. And I will continue to practice…and practice…and practice…
